I’m definitely someone who enjoys reading books across a variety of genres so there’s a real mixture of books here- fantasy, sci-fi, crime, romance… the list goes on, but these are 51 books that are on my tbr right now.
This is something I’ve been meaning to post for days (no, really, I took the photos for this blog post over 2 weeks ago).
Most of the books here are fiction. There are a few non-fiction books in my stacks of books as well, of course there are other unread non-fiction books on my shelves but they are ones I’m more likely to pick up and read a few pages of at a time rather than read cover to cover so I’ve not included them here.
You might have seen my “tbr bookshelves” in my bullet journal post last month – A Glimpse Into My Bullet Journal For 2024 but I thought I’d share a separate bookish post now. I have read 7 books so far this year so a few of the “books” in my journal have been coloured in since I posted that. Honestly at this point, more would probably have been read had I not been distracted by audiobooks from the library that weren’t even on my tbr.
So, what am I reading right now? I’m currently reading Past Lying by Val McDermid, it’s the latest book in the Karen Pirie series. That series is SO easy to fall back into reading, it is actually one of my all time favourite crime series. I am also partway through reading Yellowface by Rebecca F. Kuang and another of Val McDermid’s books, Forensics which is a non-fiction book that I started some time ago. I’ll often find myself reading more than one book at a time.
…And the book I’m most looking forward to reading next? Okay, why have I just asked myself that question? How am I supposed to pick one book out of fifty-one books that are already on my tbr!?! F i f t y – o n e divided by… 1. All 51?! Ha, yep I’m 100% using maths to try and get around answering that question! Okay, really though, one thing I’d like to do is finish or at least continue reading series I’ve already started. I’m up to book 4 of the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi so far, I’d also like to finish reading the Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I think I’ll probably listen to Obsidio on audiobook, from what I’ve heard of the sample it sounds really good.
If someone were to ask me what genre they would absolutely not find on my tbr then I would have said horror a year ago, since it’s one of the genres that I’d normally avoid. …To be honest I don’t think there *is* another horror book on my list right now, but I did read Gallant by V.E. Schwab last year which is a horror fantasy and that ended up being one of my favourite reads of the year.
