Garden Catch-Up As We Go Into Spring

I thought it was about time I shared a few more throwback photos from the garden, this time from last year but I also wanted to share some from spring so far.

As plants wake up from winter and more bulbs start to flower, I’ve found myself out in the garden with my phone and camera a few times over the past few weeks. Now the clocks have gone forward, I can get outside in the evening after dinner before it gets dark which is great!

One of the things I enjoy the most when putting these posts together is making the photo collages, which once again was definitely needed here – there’s always so many photos I want to include when I’m doing these sorts of posts and this one was no exception.

So firstly, let’s rewind…

… back to last year!

Let’s start off with the collage of photos at the top of the post. In this photo there are bluebells (bottom-left) a tulip in the middle and a pink rose covered in raindrops on the right with other flower photos above them.

The flower on the top-right is one of very few plants I’ve managed to get to grow from seeds! I can’t remember if they originally seeded themselves, actually I’m pretty sure they probably did some years ago, but anyway, after the flowers went over the other year, I thought I’d try getting the seeds they’d left behind and spread them out around the flowerbeds to see if I could get more to grow. Their fuzzy green leaves soon started popping up again which was lovely.

Then there’s the flowers we bought from the garden centre last year. I really like the vibrant colours of these.

Now where would a garden post be without a mention of the wildlife who have visited the garden.

There’s a lot of photos in this one.

So let’s go clockwise from the top-left. Firstly we have our resident female blackbird, next there’s a close-up of a fly – just look at it’s cute feet pads! Then there’s a moth, a speckled wood butterfly (I was so hyped to get a photo of this, it just happened to be hanging out on the window outside when I walked past).

Then there’s the squirrel who popped in for a visit (you might remember me mentioning it in my blog post last year – nature & wildlife in the garden over the years).

Next to the squirrel is a blue tit then another flying insect on a daisy. In the middle there’s a close-up of a woodlouse and a bluebottle fly.

Another picture I just had to include is this one of a wood-pigeon on a branch, while technically it’s not actually inside the garden, I really like how this photo turned out with all the leaves in the background.

… and now let’s dive back into this year.

collage of flower photos, hyacinth, daffodils, blossom and other flowers

Of course the first plant I’m going to mention is the blossom! It’s had SUCH an amazing show of flowers this year, the bees have loved it too.

I moved the pot of daffodils onto a table so I could get a quick photo with the blue sky in the background (love a good blue sky photo and this was the perfect opportunity to get a photo of this one!) Next to it is another daffodil, this time with what I believe is a gathering of pollen beetles.

That’s probably not the correct terminology – what is a group of beetles called?

The pink bulbs in the bottom-right have done well this year too, they’re really brightening up the flowerbed in the centre of the garden.

I hope you’re all enjoying the lovely sunny weather this week (if it is indeed as sunny where you are).
