Last year was another great year for nature photography in the garden, with photos of plants, flowers, insects and other wildlife, let’s take a look back at 2025 in the garden.
Since I already shared photos from the start of spring last year, this post is going to be a continuation on from that.
Let’s start off with the photos I’ve included in the image at the top of the page. Pink blossom, rhododendron flowers, purple scabiosa, a small copper butterfly and a hedgehog. We had a hedgehog visit our garden regularly last year.
One of my favourite ever bee photos is one I took at the same time as the one in the bottom right photo last year. I wanted to include this one here though since the other one is already in my website portfolio. The insects absolutely love the wild daisies dotted around the garden.

Several of the flowers in this photo actually seeded themselves.
The ones in the bottom right originally seeded themselves in the side garden, in recent years though I’ve been dispersing the seeds around different flower beds (including where they started out) that are left after the flowers go over. They make such a lovely show of flowers each year!
The yellow antirrhinum grew on the patio in the summer, we had some antirrhinum plants some years ago and ever since then they’ve popped up around the garden each year. In the top left is some pink flowers that also seeded themselves.
Tulips are in the bottom left and of course the peony in the top right has been in the garden for years.

Last year I started really focusing on taking more photos of insects.
The fly in the top right came in for a visit (and was safely taken back outside) how much does it look like a bee though?!
More flowers…

Bluebells are of course in the top left of the photo, in the bottom left is the bleeding heart plant which is already out in flower again this year. In the bottom right is another peony and then there’s the hosta in the top right.
The blue flowers in the centre of the photo might look lovely but they spread all over the place and the little hairs on their leaves can be pretty vicious when trying to evict them!

The resident blackbird pair, some fungi, a young pied wagtail hanging out on our roof… and then there’s Sunny, one of several wood pigeons who visit our garden.
When he had an injured foot last year we looked out for him, made sure he got food okay and ever since then he’s become really friendly. There were times last year where he’d come down to the side garden when I was out there gardening to get me to go round the back and put food out for him, he’d literally walk me to the back door, looking round as we went to make sure I was following him. Sometimes I’d take the food down the side with me for him (and for his partner too who sometimes joins him for food). Obviously I’ve not been outside gardening as much since winter but he still comes to the backdoor looking for us to put food out, he’ll eat out of my hand too.
If you haven’t already seen it, I started uploading videos to a new YouTube channel last year, one of which features these “burrowing” sparrows, they seemed to really enjoy burrowing under and around the elephant ornament in the flower bed last year while having their dirt baths. I’ve shared a video over on my YouTube channel featuring them and other wildlife from around the garden in the summer. You can watch it here…
Or view the other videos in my nature playlist.
